What is Scuttlebutt?

Scuttlebutt is a report about the behavior of other people. At Up4Contract.com, Scuttlebutt is synonymous with feedback. After a contract has been fulfilled, both the Advertiser and the Contractor will be able to leave feedback, what we call Scuttlebutt, for each other in the Scuttlebutt feedback forum. The Scuttlebutt rating is from one star to five stars, and includes comments as well.

You must first login in to your "My Office" to leave Scuttlebutt. Click on the "Scuttlebutt" tab from the "My Office" section. Under the "Contracts Awaiting Scuttlebutt" section, locate the project, and click "Proceed" to leave feedback for that user. Scuttlebutt can only be left once for each transaction, and it cannot be edited afterwards.

Scuttlebutt feedback is comprehensive and integral to Up4Contract.com, as it reinforces the value of an individual's word. Up4Contract.com uses the Scuttlebutt feedback forum to help provide safe and effective contracting and to encourage honest transactions. All members of the site are given a member rating, formulated from the amount and extent of positive and negative feedback they have received from other members.

We enforce a strict rating policy, where members must maintain a 97% integrity rating, which means members can receive only three negative ratings per 100 contracts. A one or two star rating is a negative rating. Up4Contract.com will suspend or remove members with Scuttlebutt lower than a 97% rating.

What is a contract?

A contract is an agreement between two or more people, one party (or parties) agreeing to perform certain acts, the other party (or parties) agreeing to pay for said performance. A contract places an obligation on one party to do something and an obligation upon the other party to reward the doer.

Technically, a valid contract requires (1) an offer (terms of the agreement), and (2)
an acceptance of that offer (signatures of the parties), and (3) consideration (compensation or payment).

Every contract is negotiable. You should never sign a contract that you have not read or that contains language that you do not understand or do not want to accept. The Contract Advertiser and Contractor should set a contract in place before services are performed.

After you submit your contract, you will receive competitive bids from other Up4Contract.com members.

  1. Members bid down your maximum price to win the opportunity to fulfill your request.
  2. When the contract advertisement period ends, the lowest bidder becomes your service provider/Contractor. Up4Contract.com uses a reverse bidding system in order to provide instant contract fulfillment at a market-driven price that pleases the Contract Advertiser and Contractors.
  3. At the close of the contract advertisement, both you and the winning bidder will be notified.
  4. Contact the winning bidder (Contractor) to award the project and confirm the contract details including, but not limited to time frame, payment terms, and other requirements and stipulations.

How do I pay the Contractor?

After the contract advertisement period has ended, contact the Contractor to review payment details. You may agree to pay the Contractor in installments, such as 25% initially and 75% upon completion, or pay in full at the end of a project. You should also determine payment method, e.g. check, cash, PayPal, etc. It is advised that you include your payment method in your contract advertisement as well as to obtain a signed agreement from the Contractor regarding payment before services begin. Depending on the type of services being provided, you may want the Contractor to invoice you.

Up4Contract.com is not responsible for the payments and deliverables. We are a venue for finding and procuring services.

Top

What is the maximum offering amount?

When you create your contract advertisement, you will be asked to enter the "Max You Will Pay to Have Contract Filled." What that means is the maximum amount you are willing to pay to have the service/job completed for you. For example, if you can only afford $50 to have a service completed for you, bidders willing and able to complete the contract for you will submit bids lower than $50. Bids will never be higher than your maximum offering amount. However, if your Max amount is too low, you may not receive any bids, in which case you can edit your contract.

Our goal at Up4Contract.com is to help you save money.

How do I know bidders are qualified to bid on my contract?

Up4Contract.com encourages all Contract Advertisers to include as many details as possible in their contract advertisements to assure that only those service providers within their stipulations make bids. Further, our community is regulated by member feedback as a way to prevent unqualified providers from making bids. We impose a strict rating policy for all of our members. No members with more than 3 negative ratings (2 stars or less) per 100 transactions are allowed to use Up4Contract.com - our 97% integrity rule. That way, there is an average 97% chance that bidders/Contractors will follow through.

In the event you are not satisfied with the Contractor's service, our Scuttlebutt forum is set in place so that you can advertise your detailed comments about your transaction. Additionally, if a bidder is unclear about the details in the contract, they can email the Contract Advertiser before submitting a bid.

Because Up4Contract.com is means of connecting those in need of services with service providers, we cannot offer warranties or guarantees of the quality of service provided. Members are encouraged to review and discuss contract details with the winning bidder to ensure proper qualifications. It is also important to prepare a written contract signed by the service provider outlining your expectations and project details.

However, in the event that you and the Contractor cannot reach an agreement on how to remedy the situation, you should leave feedback regarding the Contractor and your experience in the Scuttlebutt feedback forum. How does bidding work?

Up4Contract.com uses a reverse-auction style of bidding. What that means is that the lowest bidder wins. A Contract Advertiser will advertise a contract detailing the project expectations, requirements, payment methods, etc. The contract will be listed at the maximum amount a Contract Advertiser is willing to pay to have the service completed. Members interested in the contract and that fit the criteria required can choose to bid, but they must make a bid that is lower than the listed "Max Amount." We use proxy bidding, so you can enter the minimum amount you're willing to be paid to fulfill the contract. If another user places a bid on the same contract, automatic bids will be placed on your behalf in accordance with your minimum bid amount. With proxy bidding, you will be paid the maximum price until someone else places a lower bid.
